Renaissance Senior Living of Hilldale to Open Alzheimer’s and Dementia Community Featuring State-of-the-Art Technology in February 2022
The Harbor’s 1950s era design, Circadian Rhythmic LED lighting and SimpleC™ therapy were intentionally designed to enhance the lives of seniors with memory-related disorders.
MADISON, Wis. (Dec. 27, 2021) – Renaissance Senior Living of Hilldale, the newest member of the Cleveland, Tenn.-based Legacy Senior Living family of assisted living and memory care facilities, will introduce Dane County to state-of-the-art, non-medication technology when its premiere memory-care community, The Harbor, opens to residents in February 2022.
Following the multi-million dollar redevelopment and renovation currently underway at the Segoe Road facility, The Harbor will feature 28 memory care suites where advanced technology will be used to assist in the personalized care for seniors who are facing memory-related disorders, such as Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.
“The Harbor at Renaissance Senior Living of Hilldale is the continued realization of a dream that we developed after more than a decade of in-depth research in the field of Alzheimer’s and dementia. Our programs at The Harbor were intentionally designed to help seniors find a safe haven from the storms associated with dementia. We are confident these innovative programs will provide a high-quality environment for better enhancing the lives of our residents,” Bryan Cook, Founder and President of Legacy Senior Living, said.
Staffed by a team of compassionate and experienced caregivers, The Harbor will offer several state-of-the-art technologies and unique approaches to memory care which will include:
- SimpleC electronic storyboard to promote memory retention. SimpleC is a cutting-edge, scientifically proven therapy that uses an electronic storyboard to aid each individual resident’s memory needs. With the help of loved ones, The Harbor caregivers will specifically tailor the storyboards for each resident, blending technology with behavior therapy. The resident will hear calming music and voices, as well as see familiar images, to help recall the memories of important people and key life events. The Harbor provides this service through computer tablets and on the large television in the common area Town Theater. Institutions such as Johns Hopkins, Georgia Tech and Emory led the creation of the electronic storyboard program after years of
- Circadian Rhythmic LED lighting to mimic sunrise and sunset. The Harbor will utilize a purpose-designed circadian rhythm LED lighting system that simulates morning’s sunrise, afternoon’s warmth and evening’s glow by carefully utilizing specific shades and intensity of light throughout the facility. Several controlled studies of seniors have shown exposure to natural light cycles is a useful tool to improve sleep efficiency and alertness without utilizing medication. By investing in circadian lighting technology, The Harbor at Renaissance Senior Living of Hilldale will stand among the few facilities in the country offering this unique approach to caring for those affected by such a complex disease.
- 1950s-era design to stimulate nostalgic memories. The Harbor facility is a result of years of planning and development alongside notable experts in the field of memory loss. The Harbor’s overall theme, design, colors, furniture, and common areas all reflect a 1950’s theme reminiscent of younger times. The colors are bright and cheery with large windows in each apartment. Flooring types, textures and furnishings have been chosen based on successful trends in memory care. A large area called the Town Center will be the hub of activities and socialization, including emotional, educational, physical and spiritual opportunities. A Diner, Clinic and Theater will be located at the center of the activity hub.
“We cannot wait to welcome seniors to their new home at The Harbor. We have seen incredible results utilizing this groundbreaking memory care technology at our sister locations across the eastern United States. I am thrilled that we are going to bring this exceptional and unique care to the Madison community when our doors open in February,” Kim Kay, Executive Director of Renaissance Senior Living of Hilldale, said.
